Trois Tableaux
Sur Ma Mère

Poster design for Jonathan Koulavsky’s short film “Trois Tableaux Sur Ma Mère”. The film tells the story of a woman fleeing her motherhood in a Soviet country threatened by war. Three key moments in the story are illustrated by paintings by De Goya, Cassatt and Turner.

For this poster, I opted for a strong typographic construction evoking Russian constructivism. Details of textures of the three paintings bring dynamism and reliefs to the title. Within the main typography, curves draw the face of a young woman, partially visible, like a memory that fades.

Below, the three paintings illustrating the key moments of the story: "Saturn Devouring His Son" by Francisco de Goya, "Mother And Child" by Mary Cassatt and "Buttermere Lake" by William Turner.
